10,000 liters of fuel oil stored in Singra

The upazila administration conducted a drive in Singra, Natore, on charges of creating an artificial fuel crisis by storing fuel oil. During the drive, Mobile Court Judge and Upazila Executive Officer Abdullah Al Rifat imposed a fine of Tk 5,000 for illegally storing 10,000 liters of fuel.

The drive was conducted in the Ningain area of Singra Municipality on Saturday at around 2 pm.

According to sources, based on intelligence information that fuel oil was being stored in an underground water tank in a bamboo grove on the south side of the Ningain Bhatopara Mosque in Singra Municipality to create an artificial crisis, Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Rifat conducted a raid.

During the raid, 10,000 liters of oil were found stored in an underground tank. Through a mobile court, Md. Rubel, the owner of Satta Traders in the Singra Police Station intersection area, was fined Tk 5,000 for illegally storing 10,000 liters of diesel. He was also ordered to transfer the fuel to a licensed diesel shop by tomorrow.

Md. Rubel is the son of Md. Bellal Hossain of Bhatopara Mohalla in Ningain.

Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Shahadat Hossain, Upazila Agriculture Officer Khandaker Farid, Upazila Livestock Officer Md. Tashriful Islam, and others were present during the drive.

Meanwhile, Executive Magistrate of the district administration Mahmudul Hasan Dipu conducted another drive in Sherkol and Hatiandah markets of the upazila and fined three shopkeepers Tk 8,000 for violating Sections 37, 38, and 42 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009.

Upazila Executive Officer Abdullah Al Rifat said that, based on intelligence information that some unscrupulous businessmen in the area were planning to sell oil at higher prices by creating an artificial crisis, a businessman was fined Tk 5,000 under the Petroleum Act 2016.

Although he has permission to stockpile fuel, the fine was imposed for illegally storing it without following the proper procedures.

He added that regular drives and intelligence surveillance by the upazila administration are continuing.
