Bangladesh Football League: Fortis FC beat defending champion Mohammedan

Fortis Football Club made an outstanding performance to beat Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd 2-1 in their Bangladesh Premier League match at the Shaheed Direndranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla on Saturday.

Fortis, who are in great form in the Bangladesh Premier League, have picked up another win.

Now Fortis FC is breathing on the neck of Bashundhara Kings, who are at the top. The two teams are now equal on points.

After victory against Mohammedan, Fortis is at number two in the points table with 21 points from 10 matches.

Bashundhara Kings has also earned the same number of points from the same number of matches. But they are at number one, trailing Fortis on goal difference.

Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club is at number six in the points table. They have collected only 10 points from 10 matches.

In the day’s match, Mohammedan was ahead in possession of the ball. Two teams played almost equally in attack.

Mohammedan’s footballers kept the ball under their control for 55 percent of the entire match, and they took 16 shots at the opponent’s goal. Of these, four were on target.

On the other hand, Fortis’ footballers controlled the ball for 45 percent of the entire match. While Mohammedan had a total of 20 shots on goal, six of them were on target.

Fortis took the lead for the first time in the match. Gambian forward Essa Jallow put Fortis ahead in the 22nd minute. There were no further goals in the first half.

Mohammedan was desperate for a goal from the beginning of the second half. But the desired goal was not achieved. The black and white jersey holders conceded a goal in the 52nd minute. Essa Jallow also scored the second goal for Fortis.

Mohammedan paid for it with a goal 12 minutes later. Muzaffarov scored the goal from a penalty kick.
