3 officials transferred after State Minister’s visit to Siddhirganj land office

Staff Correspondent, N’ganj :

The Ministry of Land has ordered departmental action against officials and employees of the Siddhirganj Union Land Office in Narayanganj Sadar upazila over allegations of irregularities and corruption.

Three officials have been transferred immediately, and preparations are underway to initiate departmental proceedings against them.

The directive was issued through a notification signed by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Land, Md. Saiful Islam, on Wednesday (March 4). Earlier the same day around 9:00 am, State Minister for Land Barrister Kaiser Kamal paid a surprise visit to the Siddhirganj Union Land Office.

During the inspection, he expressed dissatisfaction after finding no officials or employees present at the office. Following the incident, three officials were transferred.

The transferred officials are Siddhirganj Union Assistant Land Officer Md. Nasir Uddin, Sub-Assistant Land Officer Md. Omar Faruk, and Office Assistant Jannati. Nasir Uddin and Omar Faruk have been transferred to Araihazar upazila, while Office Assistant Jannati has been transferred to Bandar upazila.

On Thursday (March 5) around 11:30 am, several service seekers were seen waiting at the Siddhirganj Union Land Office. However, the office was practically empty as the officials had already been transferred.

At that time, Nazier of the AC Land Office, Md. Jannatul, was present there. He was reportedly waiting to hand over responsibilities once the new officials joined.

Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Md. Raihan Kabir told Kaler Kantho that three individuals, including the office assistant of the Siddhirganj Union Land Office, have been transferred and preparations are underway to take departmental action against them.

According to relevant sources, during the minister’s visit none of the officials or staff were present at their workplace on time. Complaints of harassment and corruption against them were also heard from citizens who had come to receive services.

Additionally, allegations have emerged that the Union Assistant Land Officer regularly stayed at the office outside official hours from around 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm and was involved in music and other inappropriate activities.
Investigations also found that the quality of services at the land office was unsatisfactory.

No billboard displaying the official fees for land services was posted in the office, creating confusion among service seekers.

In this situation, the Ministry of Land has issued several urgent directives.

These include taking swift departmental action against officials and employees involved in irregularities in accordance with existing rules. All land offices across the country have also been instructed to remain vigilant in this regard.

The notification also stated that Additional Deputy Commissioners (Revenue), Upazila Nirbahi Officers, and Assistant Commissioners (Land) have been directed to strengthen regular monitoring and visible activities to prevent corruption.
