Former transport union leader shot dead

A former president of the Rupsa-Bagerhat inter-district road transport workers’ union was shot dead by assailants at the busy Dakbanglo intersection in Khulna city on Wednesday night. Police later detained a suspect along with a foreign-made pistol.
The deceased, Masum Billah, hailed from Bagmara village of Rupsa upazila and was the son of the late Minhaj Uddin Munshi. He was also serving as convener of the upazila unit of the Sramik Dal.
According to police and eyewitnesses, a group of armed attackers opened fire on Masum Billah around 9:15pm while he was standing at the Dakbanglo intersection.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Law enforcement agencies launched an immediate drive in the area and detained one Ashok Ghosh. A foreign-made pistol and bullets were reportedly recovered from his possession. Additional police were deployed at the scene, and checkpoints were set up in surrounding areas.
Police officials said an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the killing and to identify any other individuals involved
