Teacher jailed over hemp cultivation

A 12 feet high cannabis plant was recovered from a school teacher’s house in Sirajganj. The mobile court sent the teacher to jail in this incident.

On Monday this information was confirmed by the investigating officer of Kazipur police station, Abu Said.
The detained teacher Mahbubur Rahman Manik (45) is the son of the deceased Mujibur Rahman of Chalidanga village.

He is Senior Instructor of Civil and Architecture Department of Anwara Azad Madhyamik Technical and Vocational Institute and ex-President of Chaulhidanga Union Jubo Dal and former Propaganda Secretary of Upazila Jubo Dal.

Kazipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the matter and said, ‘On the basis of secret information, a raid was conducted at Manik Master’s house on Sunday night.

At this time, a cannabis plant with a height of about 12 feet and weighing about five kilograms was recovered from the back of his house.

Initially, it is known that he planted and nurtured the tree. He also said Mahbubur Rahman confessed to the crime during the raid.
