UCB signs agreement to strengthen carbon accounting

Business Desk :

United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) has signed an agreement with Ernst & Young Advisory Services Bangladesh Limited (EY ASBL) to further enhance its carbon accounting and carbon emission measurement practices.
The agreement was formally signed recently at UCB’s Corporate Office. It is being considered a strategic initiative to strengthen the bank’s environmental sustainability efforts, according to a media release. Under the agreement, EY ASBL will assist UCB in preparing its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory for the financial year 2024-25.
In simple terms, the bank’s carbon emissions generated from its operations will be measured and analyzed. This will include direct emissions from the bank’s own activities (Scope 1); emissions resulting from electricity or energy consumption (Scope 2); and other indirect emissions related to the bank’s operational activities (Scope 3).
Through this comprehensive assessment, UCB will gain a clear understanding of its environmental impact. Representing UCB at the signing ceremony were Additional Managing Director and CRO Nabil Mustafizur Rahman; CFO Faruk Ahmed; SEVP Saiful Islam; CCO Zishan Kingshuk Haq; SEVP (GSD) Mohammad Asif Qureshi, along with other senior officials.
On behalf of EY ASBL, Managing Director Nowshad Ekramullah, Associate Director Rana Sohel, and Manager Ibrahim Redwan were present at the event.
