Double Murder in Ishwardi: Grandmother’s body found in courtyard, granddaughter’s in mustard field

Police have recovered the bodies of a grandmother and her granddaughter from separate locations in Ishwardi. On Saturday morning, the grandmother’s body was found in the courtyard of their home, while the granddaughter’s body was recovered from a nearby mustard field.

The matter was confirmed by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mominuzzaman of Ishwardi Police Station. The deceased were identified as Sufia Khatun (65), mother of Joynal Kha of Bhabanipur Uttarpara in Dashuria Union, and her granddaughter Jamila Akter (15).

According to sources, the grandmother and granddaughter lived together in a tin-shed house. Jamila was a student of Kalikapur Islamia Dakhil Madrasa. Locals said the girl’s father lives in Dhaka.

Although cries were reportedly heard from the house late at night, the sounds later stopped. In the morning, Sufia Khatun’s blood-stained body was found in the courtyard. When family members searched for the missing granddaughter, her body was discovered in a nearby mustard field.

Police initially suspect that the grandmother may have been killed while trying to prevent the abduction of the teenager. The granddaughter’s body was found in the mustard field, and there are allegations of rape in connection with the incident. Authorities are awaiting the autopsy report to confirm the cause of death.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Ishwardi Circle) Pranab Kumar said the incident is being investigated with utmost important , and those responsible will be identified and brought under legal action.
