BRUR ranks 2nd in research nationwide

Spain-based education and research organisation Scimago Institutions Rankings has published its 2026 university rankings.

A total of 10,827 universities from countries around the world have been included in this year’s list. Among Bangladeshi institutions, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) has jointly secured 6th position in the overall national ranking.

In the research indicator, BRUR has achieved 2nd place in the country, surpassing leading institutions including University of Dhaka, University of Rajshahi, Jahangirnagar University and University of Chittagong. Last year, the university ranked 10th in research.

According to the ranking data, a total of 47 public and private universities from Bangladesh have been included in this year’s list. Overall, BRUR ranked 22nd last year and 18th in 2024. This year, it has advanced 16 places to secure 6th position nationally.

The Scimago ranking is based on three indicators: research, innovation and societal impact. In the overall assessment, research carries a weight of 50 per cent, innovation 30 per cent, and societal impact 20 per cent.

According to the Scimago University Rankings 2026, BRUR’s positions in Bangladesh are 2nd in research, 13th in societal impact, and 47th in innovation. Based on the combined performance across these three indicators, the university ranks 6th nationally.
