JnU launches Bus Tracker App to ease students’ transport woes

City Desk :

Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) has launched the ‘JnU Express’ bus tracker app to reduce transport hardships and facilitate commuting for university students.

The app was officially inaugurated on Thursday at the JnUCSU office on the second floor of the university’s Abakash Bhaban.

JnUCSU Vice-President Riazul Islam attended as the chief guest and inaugurated the app. He said: “University students have long been uncertain about bus locations and schedules.

Especially female students had to wait long hours on the roads in the morning for buses, leading to safety risks and incidents like muggings.

The ‘JnU Express’ app was developed by JnUCSU, in collaboration with Jagannath University Islami Chhatrashibir, to address these issues”.

It was announced at the inauguration event that the app took some time to launch officially due to Google’s map approval process. After receiving necessary permissions, it has now been published on the Play Store.

Students can download and use it before or after Eid. Additionally, a website named ‘JnU Express’ has been launched for users’ convenience, from where the app can be downloaded.

Regarding the app’s functionality, Riazul Islam said drivers or assistants will activate the app during bus operations and keep the location on.

This will allow students to track bus locations in real-time. The location will remain off when buses are parked or out of service. Bus drivers and assistants have already received necessary training on this.

JnUCSU leaders present at the inauguration included AGS Masud Rana, Social Service and Student Welfare Secretary Mostafizur Rahman, Sports Secretary Jorgis Anowar Naim, and Executive Member Mehdi Hasan, among others.
