Former Mayor Ivy granted bail in 5 cases

Staff Correspondent, N’ganj :

Former Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, has been granted bail by the High Court in five separate cases filed against her. The order was issued on Thursday by a High Court bench comprising Justice K.M. Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher.

The cases include the murder of bus driver Abul Hossain Miji, the murder of Abdur Rahman, the murder of Md. Yasin, the murder of Parvez, and a case related to obstructing police duties. Senior lawyer Sara Hossain represented Ivy during the hearing, accompanied by lawyers including Motahar Hossain Saju.

The five cases were filed around the time Ivy was close to securing bail in five earlier cases. Of the latest cases, four were filed by family members of the deceased at Fatullah Model Police Station.

According to the case documents, during the anti-discrimination movement in July 2024, four people of different ages were shot dead in incidents on the Dhaka-Narayanganj highway and in the Bhuiyagarh and Delpara areas.

The fifth case was filed by police at Sadar Model Police Station. The complaint alleges that bricks were thrown and cocktails were detonated at a police vehicle while Ivy was being taken from her residence, “Chunka Kutir.”
The case was filed on May 12. Leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations who support Ivy were also named as accused in the case.

Selina Hayat Ivy was arrested on May 9, 2025, in connection with the Minarul murder case related to the anti-discrimination student movement. She has remained in prison since then. At that time, police showed her “arrested” in five additional cases.

Earlier, on November 9, 2025, a High Court bench comprising Justice A.S.M. Abdul Mobin and Justice Md. Sagir Hossain had granted her bail in those five cases. However, the Appellate Division’s chamber court later stayed that order.
