Mehazabien takes legal action for defamation allegations over airport issue

Several media outlets reported that actress Mehazabien Chowdhury was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with 14 bottles of liquor while returning to Dhaka from Bangkok in August last year.

The report also claimed that her husband and producer Adnan Al Rajeev and director Shankha Dasgupta were with her at the time.

The published news also claimed that the airport authorities mysteriously released them without disclosing the fact that 14 bottles of alcohol were found in their luggage.

As this claim spread in the media, actress Mehazabien faced criticism.

In this regard, the actress denied the allegation in a post on her verified Facebook page on Sunday (February 22). At the same time, she also expressed concern about the misuse of technology.

Now, in another post, Mehazabien claimed that defamatory propaganda has been launched against her. She has taken legal action for this.

In a post on Tuesday (February 24), Mehazabien wrote, “I have already taken legal action regarding the recent incident in which defamatory propaganda was spread against me.

I would like to make a few things clear in this regard. First of all, I was never stopped at the airport in any of the mentioned incidents.

None of my handbags or luggage were seized; there is no question of finding anything of the alleged nature in my luggage or handbag.

I have not faced any incident like the ones being spread. No airport official questioned me in any way.”

She wrote, “Is there any photo, video or any kind of evidence of me being interrogated, of something illegal being found in my luggage? Unfortunately, defamation has become a very common thing now.

In light of the news that has been spread, no one has been able to provide a single piece of evidence that something illegal was found in my luggage. Yet my photo has been used for clickbait.”

Mehazabien also wrote, “Such incidents are very worrying. No one should face such a situation.

These allegations against me are baseless and I reiterate that I have no involvement in any of the allegations that have been published implicating me in such unpleasant incidents.”
