BAU students’ lens captures glory of ’52
BAU Correspondent :
In a poignant tribute to the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement, the students of Mawlana Bhashani Hall at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have produced a documentary titled ‘One Hall, One Heart, One Vision’ to commemorate Amar Ekushey.
The production, an initiative by the students of the 2024-25 academic session, premiered during the early hours of Saturday at the hall premises and has since garnered widespread acclaim across social media for its historical depth and artistic execution.
The documentary provides a comprehensive narrative of the movement, beginning with the initial protests in 1948 and culminating in the supreme sacrifices of Rafiq, Salam, Barkat, and others on February 21, 1952. Directed by Durjoy Mondol, a student of the 2021-22 session, with narration by Opu Barman, the film seamlessly integrates archival footage with modern cinematography captured within the hall premises. Badhan Mallick Protik, a resident of the hall, stated: “Our primary goal was to present the authentic history of the Language Movement and our rich cultural heritage to today’s youth.
By filming at various locations within the hall and integrating historical footage, we aimed to bring the events of 1952 back to life.”
Md. Nurul Bin Hasan Antim added: “If even a single classmate learns the true history of our mother tongue through our creative efforts, we consider it a success. This passion for national history alongside our agricultural studies is truly encouraging.”
While Mawlana Bhashani Hall traditionally marks the occasion with various cultural programs, this year’s cinematic endeavor has added a new dimension to the celebrations.
The documentary has been highly praised by the university’s faculty and student body alike for its ability to foster a renewed sense of national identity and for the professional quality of the student-led production.
