Australian Open champion Carlos Alcaraz dispatched Frenchman Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-1 in just 50 minutes to win the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha.

The 22-year-old Spaniard’s ninth ATP 500 title drew him level with Andy Murray for the joint-fourth highest tally since its inception in 2009.

“I came this year hungry for more,” said the seven-time Grand Slam chammpion.
“I think after every tournament we just have to set new goals. I’m just really happy and proud of everything I have done with my team on and off the court.

“It’s been a really strong start to the year. It wasn’t easy. I had to be strong mentally with my team. I’m just playing great tennis and I’m really happy about this week. This trophy means a lot to me.”

Jessica Pegula dominated Elina Svitolina to win the Dubai Tennis Championships, the American triumphing in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

Pegula raced into a 3-0 lead over the Ukrainian in the first set, before the former US Open finalist had to defend two break points to go 5-1 up.

Pegula then claimed the crucial break in the fifth game of the second set as she went on to win her 10th title on tour, snapping a three-match losing streak in WTA 1000 finals.

In doing so, she also handed Svitolina a first defeat in a WTA 1000 final.

“Speechless after that fight,” Pegula said. “?I was really trying to put myself out there, and I was playing like there is no tomorrow, just trying to put all the effort in.”
