People’s expectations from the new government enormous!
The people’s expectations from the new BNP government, established following the swearing-in members of parliament and the cabinet on Tuesday, are enormous, sky-high, and at times, overwhelming.
The government, led by party Chairman Tarique Rahman, is tasked with managing these high hopes while the country is facing significant economic, law and order, and administrative hurdles.
The swearing-in ceremony of the MPs was held at South Plaza of the Sangsad Bhaban in the morning.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath to the MPs. In the afternoon, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman took oath as the Prime Minister from President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
At the same time, the president also administered the oath of the office to the cabinet members.
With this, the BNP government has assumed the responsibility of running the country after two long decades. In this incumbent parliament, BNP has more than two-thirds majority.
On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami and its 11-party alliance have 77 members.
Observers believe that the cabinet members of the new government must be efficient, honest, transparent, skilled, and committed.
The new government must have the capacity and capability to successfully address many of the challenges.
It should take the new challenges such as improving and protecting law and order, restructuring and energizing the troubled economy, rescuing the banking sector and stock market, and increasing investment and employment.
If our new ministers possess the above qualities, it is hoped that Bangladesh will not only be a middle-income country, but will stand tall as a dignified and developed nation in the world.
From the moment of taking oath to the last day of leaving office, let public interest be their only thought and knowledge. May the people win, may Bangladesh win.
Also mentionable, honesty is not a relative matter; it is the moral backbone of a cabinet. Ministers must have transparent personal and political lives.
Immediately after taking the oath, the accounts of their own and family’s assets must also be made public and a culture of updating them every year must be introduced.
The ‘zero tolerance’ policy must be proven not only in words but also in deeds.
The anti-corruption attitude must be at such a level that the message of honesty reaches the lowest level of the administration.
We want to see a vibrant parliament. The people of the country also desire sincere and good relations between the ruling party and the oppositions in the House.
We expect that a positive political culture will be deeper, sincere and fruitful in the future.
