Jamaat MPs won’t take tax-free cars: Shishir Monir

Staff Reporter :

Elected MPs of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will not accept tax-free vehicles or government residential plots, according to party leader and senior Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Shishir Monir.

He shared the information in a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday.
In the post, Shishir Monir wrote, “As previously announcement our honourable MPs will not accept tax-free cars or government plots, InshaAllah.

Before the election, on November 7, 2025, at a civic gathering organized by the city unit of Jamaat at a convention hall in Sylhet, Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman announced, “If even one of our candidates is elected as an MP in the future, none of them will take government plots or use tax-free vehicles.”

He further said, “If, by the will of Allah, we have to sit in the opposition, we assure them (the ruling party) that we will work as their partners in every humane and good initiative.

But if, after assuming power, they revert to the old ways and engage in wrongdoing, we will first advise them privately to refrain from such actions. If they correct themselves, we will congratulate them. If not, then just as we have previously risked our lives in movements and struggles, we will not hesitate to do so again.”

The Election Commission has announced the results of 297 seats in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. According to the results, the BNP won 209 seats, Jamaat-e-Islami secured 68 seats, independent candidates won 7 seats, the National Citizen Party obtained 6 seats, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis won 2 seats, and Gonoshonghoti Andolon, Gon Odhikar Parishad, Bangladesh National Party-BJP, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, and Khelafat Majlis each secured one seat.
