BB warns about fake money promotion on social media
Business Report :
Bangladesh Bank has warned people about misleading propaganda and illegal activities using “sample notes” made in the image of real money on social media.
The central bank issued this warning in a press release on Monday.
The Department of Communication and Publication of Bangladesh Bank said that recently some videos and pictures have been spread on various online platforms including Facebook and YouTube.
In these contents, large-sized ‘sample notes’ are being displayed by imitating the design and size of the real notes exactly.
An unscrupulous group is using these notes to spread false propaganda and conduct illegal marketing activities by misleading the common people.
The release also said that it is completely illegal to carry out propaganda using any paper or note resembling real money in the market or in public places.
Such activities create confusion in the public mind and can be considered a serious criminal offense under the Penal Code, 1860.
It has also been warned that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in violating the law.
The central bank has directed the general public to refrain from making, using or distributing any paper in the form of real banknotes.
At the same time, it has been urged not to believe any financial information circulated on social media without verifying it.
The notification also said that the public should be aware to avoid fraud and ensure safe transactions.
It has been advised to visit the official website of Bangladesh Bank to learn more about the security features and ways to identify real banknotes.
The central bank has also urged to rely on information from reliable and official sources to avoid confusion in financial matters.
