Rajshahi Stars unbeaten champions in WFL

Rajshahi Stars Football Club emerged the unbeaten champions in the Women’s Football League (WFL) defeating Bangladesh Army Sports Club by three goals to nil in their last match at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Shipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the capital’s Kamalapur on Friday.

Rajshahi Stars collected maximum 30 points from 10 matches, while Bangladesh Army Sports Club earned 24 points from as many matches. The first half was locked 0-0.

After a barren first half, Alpi Akter of Rajshahi Stars Football Club put her team ahead using a pass of her teammate Sauravi Akanda Prity in the 47th minute of the play.

Shaheda Akter Ripa of Rajshahi Stars Football Club doubled the margin by a volley shot utilizing a cross of her teammate Ritu Porna Chakma in the 58th minute of the game.

Ritu Porna Chakma of Rajshahi Sports Football Club sealed the fate of the match by an angular shot in the 87th minute of the clash.

Bangladesh Army Sports Club showed also a remarkable performance. It was their second defeat. Earlier, They just lost to Farashganj Sporting Club in their Women’s Football League campaign.

Rajshahi Stars and Bangladesh Army Sports Club showed attacking football in the first half. But after the intermission, Rajshahi Sports Club played a better brand football and earned the victory.

Alpi Akter of Rajshahi Stars Football Club is the highest scorer of the Women’s Football League. She scored 30 goals.

It may be mentioned that Nabil Group sponsored Rajshahi Stars. Nabil Group also sponsored Rajshahi Warriors in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket. Rajshahi Warriors became champions in the recently concluded in the BPL Cricket.

Rajshahi Stars were formed a good number of footballers of Bangladesh National Women’s Football team and they also recruited foreign booters.
A total of 11 teams took part in this year’s Women’s Football League.
