Jamaat Chief calls voters to safeguard ballots
Staff Reporter :
As voting in the 13th national parliamentary election and the referendum concluded, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman called for heightened vigilance to prevent any irregularities.
In a Facebook post around 4pm on Thursday, Dr. Shafiqur said that since the previous day, citizens had bravely countered rumours and resisted alleged attempts to seize control of polling stations.
He noted that voters turned out from early morning in a festive atmosphere, driven by their commitment to justice.
However, he expressed grave concern over reports from different parts of the country about attempts to cast fraudulent votes.
He also alleged that polling agents were attacked and injured in several areas, while some women faced harassment.
The Jamaat chief further claimed that renewed efforts were underway in certain locations to unlawfully occupy polling centres.
He urged voters to stay alert, safeguard their ballots until the final results are announced, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies while protecting polling stations.
Dr. Shafiqur also alleged that some groups were still plotting to take over polling centres and snatch ballot papers. He called on the authorities to take firm action to stop such activities, ensure the protection of the people’s mandate, and stand by citizens.
“We respectfully call upon the administration and members of law enforcement agencies to uphold a free and fair electoral environment. However, the public expects more prompt and decisive action at this stage,” he added.
