NCC Bank Supports “SeaSafe Lifeguard” Initiative at Cox’s Bazar Beach

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, NCC Bank has extended support to the “SeaSafe Lifeguard” program operated by the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) at Cox’s Bazar sea beach, aiming to address drowning related public health risks and enhance public awareness across the country.

Drowning remains a major public health concern in Bangladesh, claiming nearly 18,000 lives every year, including a significant number of children. To combat this crisis, CIPRB has been implementing the SeaSafe Lifeguard program since 2012, conducting regular beach patrols and rescue operations at Cox’s Bazar.

To date, the initiative has saved 1,052 lives and reached millions of people through drowning prevention and awareness campaigns. Considering the social significance and lifesaving impact of the program, NCC Bank has come forward to support the initiative under its CSR activities, reflecting the Bank’s strong commitment to public safety and social welfare.

The inauguration of the supported activities was recently held at Sea Pearl Beach Resort, Cox’s Bazar. The event was inaugurated by the Managing Director of NCC Bank, M. Shamsul Arefin, along with Additional Managing Director M. Khurshed Alam; Deputy Managing Directors Md. Zakir Anam, Mohammed Mizanur Rahman and Md. Habibur Rahman, Head of Sustainable and Women’s Banking and Head of Strategic Brand Management, Nighat Mumtaz; Director of the Health System Research Division RTI Prevention and Research Unit of CIPRB, Dr. Salim Mahmud Chowdhury; Director of Human Resources and Administration, Col. Imran Ullah Sarker (Retd.); Senior Advisor, Government Liaison and CSR, Dr. Saikhul Islam Helal; and Project Manager of the SeaSafe Lifeguard Project, Dr. Yeasir Iftekhar, along with senior officials from both organizations.

Speaking at the event, M. Shamsul Arefin, Managing Director of NCC Bank, said, “Drowning is a silent yet devastating crisis in Bangladesh; each death has a profound impact on the affected families.

NCC Bank believes that true sustainable development is not confined to financial success alone it lies in standing beside people in need. Our support for the SeaSafe Lifeguard initiative reflects the Bank’s commitment to public safety and social well being.
