President votes via postal ballot

Staff Reporter :

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has exercised his voting right through a postal ballot for the 13th national parliamentary polls and referendum scheduled for February 12.

“Last night, His Excellency the President cast his vote from Bangabhaban for the Pabna-5 constituency,” said his Assistant Private Secretary Mohammad Shagor Hossain to media on Monday.

The APS added that a Postal Department official delivered the ballot to the relevant authorities this morning.

Under Article 27 of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), the Head of State is entitled to vote via postal ballot.

This provision also allows registered voters in prison or legal custody, Bangladeshi expatriates, polling officers, and law enforcement personnel to cast their votes by postal ballot in the upcoming elections.

This year, Bangladeshi expatriates residing in 122 countries will also vote using postal ballots.

Voting for the 13th general election and referendum will take place on February 12 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
