Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali today assured that flawless security arrangements are in place for the 13th national parliament election and referendum on February 12, ensuring a free, fair, and safe voting environment.
“Strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt law and order,” he emphasized at a press conference at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road.
The DMP Commissioner outlined that there are 2,131 polling stations across Dhaka Metropolitan areas, categorized based on location, voter numbers, and security needs.
At 1,614 key polling stations, at least four police personnel will be deployed, while three officers will be assigned to 517 general stations.
To ensure real-time monitoring, body-worn cameras will be used at polling stations, with live supervision from control rooms.
A total of 180 striking teams and 510 mobile teams will remain active outside polling stations.
Additionally, eight general control rooms and four special control rooms will operate across DMP’s eight divisions.
Special Reserve Forces are positioned at strategic locations for rapid deployment, while SWAT teams, bomb disposal units, dog squads, crime scene vans, and mounted police will be on standby for emergencies.
Highlighting the importance of the election, the commissioner pledged that the police would uphold professionalism and impartiality, avoiding past criticisms of police conduct in elections.
“With steel-hard morale, police are ready to protect the sacrifices that have brought the country to a peaceful election,” he said.
Citizens were urged to participate confidently and orderly: “I request city dwellers to go to polling stations without fear or obstruction and exercise your civil rights.”
Police preparations began even before the election schedule was announced, with around 25,000 personnel receiving special election-related training to enhance their readiness.
Officers have been instructed to perform their duties impartially, ensuring a credible and transparent election.
Responding to queries, the DMP Commissioner confirmed that there is no security risk surrounding the upcoming polls and that the overall law and order situation is better than ever.
Also present at the press briefing were DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) Md. Sarwar, Additional IG; Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S. N. Md. Nazrul Islam; Deputy Police Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman; and Assistant Police Commissioner Arifa Akhtar Priti.
