EC says election results will be announced by Friday

Staff Reporter :

Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar has said that the results will be announced by Friday, the day after the election.

The 13th National Parliamentary Election and a referendum will be held on February 12. While election results were usually announced on the same day in the past, concerns have emerged this time regarding possible delays.

He shared the information on Sunday (February 8) while speaking to the media at the Election Commission building in the capital about the Commission’s preparations and the ongoing election situation.

Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam said, “With the cooperation of all concerned, we have overcome the various apprehensions related to the election. Insha’Allah, we will be able to present a beautiful and acceptable election on February 12.”

Responding to a question on whether announcing the results might be delayed due to holding the referendum and parliamentary election on the same day, he said there would be no delay of three days. Instead, the results would be announced by Friday (February 13).

He explained that modern automation systems and the use of multiple devices would enable quick collection of results, although there might be slight delays in a few polling centres located in remote areas.

Regarding the law and order situation, he said around 1.1 to 1.2 million members from all law enforcement agencies would be deployed to maintain security during the election.

The law and order situation has improved significantly compared to the past, and all forces will work in a coordinated manner.

The election will be conducted under the leadership of the returning officers and under the direct supervision of the Election Commission.

Speaking about election-day monitoring, the Election Commissioner said multiple monitoring teams would be deployed in each constituency, and updates would be sent to the central monitoring cell every two hours.

CCTV cameras will be installed in polling centres with electricity connections, and security personnel have been instructed to use body-worn cameras.

He also said a special “fact-finding cell” would remain active to prevent the spread of rumours on social media.
