BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday pledged to transform Dhaka into a ‘safe city’ and build at least 40 playgrounds across the capital if his party is elected to power.

Addressing a roadside rally at the ECB Chattar area of Mirpur in Dhaka-17 around 3:45pm, marking the first day of his final election campaign in the city, Tarique said BNP aims to make all cities, including Dhaka, safer and more liveable.

“InshaAllah, if my party wins with your votes and the mandate of the people, we will turn Dhaka into a city where people can move freely and securely,” he said.

He added that the BNP envisions a Dhaka where women can walk safely at any hour, citizens can live and work without fear, businesses can operate smoothly, and residents can enjoy a clean, beautiful environment. “We want to build a city where people can breathe freely,” he observed.

Highlighting the lack of playgrounds in the area, Tarique said he had learned that there were not enough open spaces for children and residents.

“If BNP forms the government on February 12 with your prayers and the blessings of Allah, we will not only establish playgrounds here but will build at least 40 playgrounds throughout Dhaka,” he said.

According to him, these playgrounds will provide children with spaces to play and allow women and senior citizens to walk and spend time outdoors comfortably.

Calling on voters nationwide to support BNP’s election symbol, the sheaf of paddy, Tarique said the upcoming election is vital for rebuilding the country.

Introducing himself to the voters, he said he is the BNP candidate for Dhaka-17 and a long-time resident of the area. “I grew up here, my children and my brother’s children were born here, and our family life is deeply connected to this locality,” he said.

Describing himself as a son of the area, Tarique appealed to elderly voters, women, and young people of the constituency to vote for him in the February 12 election.

He also promised to upgrade the road from ECB Chattar to the Jasimuddin area to ease traffic and improve communication for local residents.

After the roadside rally, Tarique Rahman left for another campaign event at Adarsha High School in the Senpara area of Mirpur-10.

He is also scheduled to address rallies at Pallabi’s Lalmath under Dhaka-16, Mirpur under Dhaka-15, the National Bangla High School ground opposite Mirpur Model Thana under Dhaka-14, Shyamoli Club ground under Dhaka-13, and the Satarkul area of Badda under Dhaka-11.
