29th death anniv of Khairul Kabir

Today is the twenty-ninth death anniversary of Journalist and Banker Khairul Kabir.
Khairul Kabir was the Founder Editor of the Daily Sangbad and the founder – first Life Member of the Jatiyo Press Club.
In the field of Banking, Kabir was the major shareholder, Vice Chairman and C.E.O of The Union Bank Ltd., formerly known as the Bank of Tripura Assam and Bengal, one of the oldest bank registered in India.
He was also Executive Vice President in charge of East Pakistan of the United Bank of Pakistan, Director of the Industrial Development Bank of Pakistan and the first Chairman and Managing Director of Janata Bank. He was a Fellow of the American Bankers Association, says a press release.
Khairul Kabir was one of the authors of the Historic 6 Points programme which was the basis of the demand for autonomy for East Pakistan. He was a close associate and friend of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Khan Abdus Sabur Khan, National Professor Abdur Razzak, Taffazzal Hossain Manik Miah, Kazi Anwarul Haq, Dr. Mahmood Hussain and other illustrious sons of Bengal. He was selected by the United States Government in 1955 for the Leadership Programme and successfully completed it.
Mr. Khairul Kabir was also a sponsor Director of Pubali Jute Mills Ltd., East Pakistan Co-operative Insurance Society and the United Insurance Co. Ltd.
Mr. Kabir left an indelible impression in the field of art and culture. He was one of the founders of the Pakistan Art Council now known as Shilpakola Academy and was also one of the major sponsors of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, Chugtai, Habibur Rahman, S. M. Sultan and others. Mr. Kabir set up the first Colour Cine Film Laboratory in the country whilst he was the first Managing Director of the Film Development Corporation.
In the field of sports Mr. Kabir was the President of The Pakistan Basketball Federation and Member of the Construction Committee of the Dhaka Stadium (Now Bangabandhu Stadium). He was also the founder member of the East Pakistan Flying Club and the Dhaka University Officers Club.
Mr. Khairul Kabir hailed from the illustrious Kabir family of Ghorasal and was buried in the family graveyard there.
A Milad mehfil has been organized at his ancestral home in Ghorasal to pray for the salvation of the departed soul.
