Echoes of the Earth: Photo exhibition ends today

City Desk :
The “Echoes of the Earth: Photography for the Planet” two-day exhibition and competition, a joint initiative by Dhritri Rokkhay Amra (DhRA) and the Bangladesh Photojournalists Association (BPJA) will end today and open for visitors in the National Press Club grounds, Dhaka.
The event aims to raise awareness on climate change risks and environmental conservation.
State Minister for Social Welfare Sharmin S. Murshid inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest. She warned, “The environment is deteriorating worldwide, but Bangladesh’s situation is even more alarming.
Since forming the government, we’ve seen various crises rooted in systemic corruption. Without firm resolve from the government and society, we can’t dismantle this structure or tackle these challenges. To leave a livable planet for our children, we must fight back. If a quota movement can topple a government, we need an even bigger one for the environment, rivers, and climate change.
These photos point directly at the harsh realities we live in.”
DhRA member secretary Sharif Jamil explained the event’s purpose: “A single photo by a photojournalist can create more impact than an environmental activist’s full day of speeches.
Our goal is to use this powerful medium to highlight environmental realities. No research is needed to see Dhaka’s dire state, we witness it daily.”
The rivers around Dhaka are no longer rivers. We believe these images will bring these hard truths to life more forcefully.”
Speakers emphasised sustainable development and eco-friendly initiatives for energy security.
Special guests included Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Jalal Ahmed and DhRA adviser Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed, National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, Tara Climate Foundation Bangladesh Programme Director Dr. Shawkat Ara Begum, and BPJA General Secretary Babul Talukder.
The competition focused on “Air, Water, and Soil Pollution” and “Fuel and Environment,” with judges selecting 35 top photos from 1,500 entries for display.
