CCC Mayor meets French embassy political counselor

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain exchanged views with Political Counselor of the French Embassy in Dhaka, Christian Beck, and Director of Alliance Française Dhaka, Bruno Lacromp.
At this time, the mayor commented that it is important for the upcoming national elections to be free, fair and participatory to re-establish a democratic environment in the country. He said that ensuring a festive electoral environment is very important so that voters can vote without any fear and political parties and candidates can campaign without any hindrance.
The mayor exchanged views at the CCC office in Tiger Pass on Thursday. When the delegation asked the mayor’s opinion on what should be done to conduct the upcoming national elections in a free and fair manner, he said that it is not possible to ensure the desired participation in the elections unless a fear-free environment is created among the voters.
The mayor said that the participation of those who are going to exercise their right to vote for the first time is especially important. Young voters are the future of democracy, they are eager to vote. A festive electoral environment must be ensured. This will encourage a large number of voters to vote spontaneously.
Stressing the importance of free media and freedom of expression, the mayor said that it is the responsibility of the state to ensure an environment where journalists can cover the elections without fear.
The media must be allowed to work independently so that the transparency and accountability of the electoral process is maintained. Ashraful Amin, Law Officer Mohiuddin Murad, Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman, Chief Accounting Officer Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, among others.
