Odommo Bangladesh T20 begins today

The Odommo Bangladesh T20 will start today at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur. A total of three squads will take part in the gala tournament. Dhumketu squad will take on Duronto squad in the inaugural match. Taskin Ahmed of Dhumketu squad will not play in the opening match due to injury.
Cricketers of the champion team will be able to earn at least 7 lakh taka. On the other hand, cricketers of the runner-up team will get at least 4 lakh taka from the tournament.
Bangladesh team are not going to play in the World Cup. This time, the Tigers will have to be spectators. However, BCB has organised a new tournament to utilise the free time.
The duration of this three-team tournament will be 5 days. The group stage will be on February 5, 6 and 7. And the final will be held on February 9.
Meanwhile, cricketers are suffering financially due to not playing in the World Cup. To reduce that loss, there is also a good payment system for the participating cricketers. There is also a huge prize money.
It is known that BCB is spending 2 crore 56 lakh 50 thousand taka for this tournament for the match fees and prize money of the cricketers. Where the champion team will get 1 crore and the runner-up team will get 4 million taka.
Meanwhile, the cricketers will get 50 thousand taka as match fee for each match. If the teams win the match, the teams will get another 10 lakh taka. From which the cricketers will get another 50 thousand taka.
That is, if the cricketers win the two matches of the first phase, the cricketers will get 2 lakh taka each. However, the main income of the cricketers will be if the team becomes the champion. The cricketers will get 5 lakh taka each from the prize money.
The cricketers of the champion team will be able to earn at least 7 lakh taka. On the other hand, the cricketers of the runner-up team will get at least 4 lakh taka from the tournament.
The ICC T20 World Cup will begin in India and Sri Lanka from February 7. Bangladesh won’t play this tournament due to security concerns.
But the ICC included Scotland in the World Cup. At that time, the BCB organised a new domestic tournament to keep the country’s cricketers in the game. The tournament, which will be held from February 5, has been named the ‘Odommo Bangladesh’ T20 Cup 2026.
Three teams will participate in this tournament. The BCB announced the three-team squad on Sunday. The national team’s T20 Captain Litton Das will lead the ‘Dhumketu XI’.
Mohammad Salahuddin will be the Head Coach of Dhumketu XI, while Mohammad Ashraful will be his assistant. Mizanur Rahman Babul and Tushar Imran will manage the dugout of Durbar XI. On the other hand, Hannan Sarkar and Rajin Saleh will serve as the Coach and Assistant Coach of Duronto XI.
Test Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto will lead the ‘Durbar XI’, while Under-19 World Cup-winning Captain Akbar Ali will lead the ‘Durant XI’.
Three teams, Dhumketu XI, Durbar XI and Duronto XI- are participating in this battle for a total prize money and match fees of around Tk 2.5 crore.
