‘No action compromise in nat’l interests’

Staff Reporter :

Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) M. Sakhawat Hussain has assured that the government will not take any measures concerning the country’s principal seaport that go against national interests.

Speaking to journalists at his office on Monday, he said, “The government is investigating individuals involved in the current situation at Chattogram Port.”

He noted that port operations have been disrupted due to the prevailing circumstances, and port authorities are actively working to resolve the issue.

The adviser emphasized that the ministry supports initiatives that serve the greater interests of both the port and the country.

He called on all stakeholders to ensure the port remains operational, warning that the ongoing disruptions are causing difficulties for the general public.

“The situation that has arisen at the port is undesirable,” he added.
Ahead of Ramadan, Sakhawat highlighted concerns about a section of traders allegedly conspiring to hike commodity prices by stockpiling goods in lighter vessels offshore.

He said mobile courts are being conducted daily by the Department of Shipping, with all relevant agencies engaged to take action against such illegal activities.
