Nahid accuses rival party of nationwide criminal activity

Staff Reporter :

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam on Thursday accused a political party of carrying out criminal activities across the country, alleging that its actions resemble what he described as the Awami League’s past “fascist politics.”

Addressing an election rally in Sreemangal of Moulvibazar, Nahid claimed that candidates of the 11-party alliance were coming under coordinated attacks and that attempts were being made to seize control of polling centres ahead of the February 12 vote.

“They are attacking candidates from the 11-party alliance and trying to capture polling stations,” he said. “If this one-sided assault continues, the people will respond through the ballot on 12 February.”

Nahid further accused the unnamed party of having previously engaged in what he termed “case trade,” alleging that mass cases had been filed in the name of fighting fascism and were now being used as political leverage.

He claimed the party was promising to withdraw those cases during the election campaign in order to win public support.

“They are clearly deceiving the people by luring them with the promise of withdrawing cases,” he said.

Vote framed as choice between systems Describing the upcoming election as historic, Nahid said the vote would determine the country’s political direction.

“Through this election, people will decide whether they want fascism or genuine democracy,” he told the rally.

He urged voters to remain cautious about what he called false assurances and political misinformation, and appealed to them to assess campaign pledges critically before casting their ballots.

Nahid’s remarks come amid an intensifying campaign season marked by sharp rhetoric, cross-accusations among political camps, and growing scrutiny of the pre-election environment ahead of the February 12 polls.
