Taposh banned from leaving country

A court has banned Kaushik Hossain Taposh, Managing Director of private television station ‘Gaan Bangla’, from leaving the country. It has also ordered the seizure of income tax documents of Taposh and his wife Farzana Munni.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order on Thursday (January 29) in response to two separate applications from the ACC.

Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain of the concerned court gave this information. SI Mehedi Hasan of the police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed two separate applications.

The petition states that money laundering investigation is ongoing against Taposh.

Evidence is being collected against him. If the suspect Taposh leaves the country, it will hinder the investigation and trial.

There is a possibility that he will abscond. In the interest of fair investigation, a ban is needed to prevent Taposh from travelling abroad.

During the investigation, letters were sent to various departments concerned to collect information about the immovable and movable properties of the suspect Taposh.

Although most of the letters were answered, several letters were sent to the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to obtain the income tax documents in the names of the suspect and his wife and children, but they were not received.

In the interest of a fair investigation, it is necessary to review the income tax documents in the names of Taposh and his wife and children. For this, the income tax documents need to be seized.
