Minor boy dies as falls into tubewell borehole

Misbah, a four-year-old boy, died on Tuesday after falling into a deep tubewell borehole in Raozan upazila of Chattogram, according to a doctor’s statement.

The boy was rescued by a Fire Service unit and immediately taken to a local hospital, where a doctor declared him dead after a medical examination.

According to local residents, the incident occurred around 4:00 pm in Joynagar village of Ward No. 7 under Kadalpur Union. Upon learning of the incident, locals immediately informed the Fire Service.

“The exact circumstances of how the child fell are not yet clear,” said Md Sajedul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Raozan Police Station. He added that details regarding the depth of the tubewell hole are also unavailable at this time.

A video circulating on social media shows villagers attempting to rescue Misbah using bamboo sticks, with a young man heard encouraging the child to hold on.

Authorities said rescue operations were conducted at the scene.
