Boosting research, higher education: BAEC inks MoUs with top institutions

Staff Reporter :

The Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with five leading domestic and international academic and industrial institutions on Monday to strengthen scientific research, higher education, and technological innovation for national development.

The partner institutions include Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST), Daffodil International University, Dhaka International University, Premier Minerals Limited, and Similitude Private Limited. The signing ceremony took place at BAEC’s mini auditorium in Agargaon, presided over by BAEC Chairman Dr. Md. Mojibur Rahman.

Science and Technology Ministry Secretary Md. Anwar Hossain attended as chief guest.
He emphasised maximising limited resources through mutual cooperation and the commercial application of scientific and technological innovations.

The event drew vice-chancellors from various universities, representatives from the partner institutions, heads of ministry-affiliated organisations, SPARSO Chairman, senior ministry officials, and BAEC scientists and officers.
Under the MoUs with the universities, the parties will collaborate on joint research, shared use of laboratories and training facilities, and academic events to enhance knowledge exchange.

Specifically, BAEC’s Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) in Jessore and JUST will advance joint research in nuclear imaging, radiopharmaceuticals, radiation therapy, and biomedical technology for medical applications.

On the international front, BAEC’s partnership with Australia’s Similitude Private Limited will implement a medicinal maggot therapy programme, establish pilot production facilities, and train healthcare workers.
Meanwhile, the MoU with Premier Minerals Limited—a Singapore-registered Australian firm—will focus on heavy mineral extraction, research, and geological surveys in coastal areas to build national capacity.

These agreements reflect BAEC’s commitment to expanding research capabilities, fostering innovation, and translating scientific research into practical applications in health, education, industry, and technology sectors.
