Mamunul claims plot to undermine July Uprising
Staff Reporter :
Chief of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Mamunul Haque on Saturday alleged that a conspiracy is gradually taking shape to undermine the July uprising, which he said was achieved through the collective participation of students and the general public.
He made the remarks while addressing an election rally of Jamaat-e-Islami at the Government Swarupkathi Model Secondary School field in Nesarabad upazila of Pirojpur around noon. Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis is a partner party within the Jamaat-led 10-party alliance.
Mamunul Haque claimed that what he described as “defeated forces” had now united in an effort to sabotage the uprising, which he said came at the cost of the blood and lives of around 1,500 people.
He further alleged that some individuals were secretly campaigning against the referendum linked to the July movement while publicly portraying themselves as its supporters.
“They call on people to vote in favour of the referendum in public, but secretly campaign for a ‘no’ vote. This hypocrisy has no place in national politics,” he said.
Issuing a warning to the administration, Mamunul Haque cautioned against any form of “engineering” in the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election, scheduled for February 12, and urged the authorities to maintain neutrality.
Calling for the establishment of an Islamic state in the future, he urged voters to support the candidate of the Jamaat-led alliance.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s Pirojpur-2 candidate Shameem Sayedee and Pirojpur-1 candidate Masood Sayedee were present at the rally, along with party leaders and activists.
Shameem and Masood are sons of the late Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee, who was convicted of war crimes and died while serving his sentence.
