Voter roll stands at 127.7m for referendum, election

The total number of voters for the upcoming referendum and parliamentary election has reached 127,711,895, according to constituency-wise voter and candidate lists published by the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday.
The EC said all registered voters will be eligible to cast their ballots in the national parliamentary election and referendum scheduled for February 12. Of the total voters, 64,825,151 are men and 62,885,524 are women. The number of transgender voters stands at 1,120.
Among the country’s 300 parliamentary constituencies, Jhalokathi-1 has the lowest number of voters, with 228,431 registered voters. In contrast, Gazipur-2 has the highest number, totaling 804,333 voters.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has decided to impose restrictions on mobile financial services and internet banking during the voting period to curb the influence of black money in the election process.
Speaking at a press conference at the Election Building on Thursday evening, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said mobile banking and internet banking transactions would be limited during polling hours but would not be completely suspended.
The referendum and parliamentary election are scheduled to be held simultaneously across the country on February 12.
