IUB holds 26th convocation

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has held its 26th convocation. The event took place on Wednesday, awarding degrees to 2,496 students from undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The ceremony took place at the International Convention City Bashundhara. Of the graduates, 2,140 completed undergraduate degrees, while 356 received postgraduate degrees.
On behalf of the president of Bangladesh and chancellor of IUB, degrees were conferred by Education Adviser CR Abrar.
The convocation address was delivered by photographer, writer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam.
Chairman of the University Grants Commission Prof SMA Faiz attended the event as guest of honour.
Sajid Bin Mohammad, a marketing graduate and a recipient of the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, was selected as the valedictorian.
Other recipients of the Chancellor’s Gold Medal were Tasnuva Mahmood from the Department of Accounting, Asadullah Ibn Masood and Zahra Alam Liya from Environmental Science and Management, and Nazmoon Nahar from the Department of Pharmacy.
The All-Rounder Gold Medal was awarded to Ahmad Tousif Jami from the Department of Global Studies and Governance.
Students were also recognised for their contributions beyond academics. Awards for cultural activities were given to Sk Salwa Sharara and Roshni Parvin. Shahrukh Bin Hannan received the award for community service, while Md Tipu Sultan and Maha Murshed were recognised for achievements in sports.
The convocation concluded with a cultural event in the evening, featuring performances by Pritom Hasan, Boga Taleb, IUB Music Club and IUB Dance Club.
