Dhaka University’s Sanskrit Department welcomed the new students and held a farewell ceremony for outgoing students on Tuesday, at the TSC Millennium Hall on campus.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Saima Haque Bidisha attended as the chief guest.
Presided over by Professor Dr Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Acting Chairman of the Sanskrit Department, the event featured speeches from the department’s honorary professor Dr Narayan Chandra Biswas, Professor Dr Asim Sarkar, and Professor Dr Moyna Talukder. Assistant Professor Titas Kumar Shil conducted the proceedings.

In her address, Professor Dr Saima Haque Bidisha emphasised that Dhaka University students remain lifelong ambassadors of the institution.

“They are never truly separated from this university, and each plays a vital role in its century-long journey forward,” she said.

She highlighted entering the job market after university as a crucial life milestone, urging students to use time wisely, act responsibly, and stay focused especially in their first year.

Professor Bidisha also encouraged participation in cultural, social, and co-curricular activities alongside studies to build personality, leadership, and human values.

Stressing that becoming a humane individual-beyond certificates and jobs-is the core aim of university education, she expressed hope that the students would uphold ethical and humanistic values, establishing themselves as worthy representatives of Dhaka University in society and workplaces.
