Tarique’s meetings with US, Canadian and EU envoys

Bilateral relations and future cooperation dominated a series of meetings held on Monday between BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and envoys from the United States, Canada and the European Union at his political office in Gulshan.

Newly appointed US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen paid a courtesy call on Tarique Rahman at around 4:00 pm, BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan said.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged greetings and discussed ways to strengthen Bangladesh-US bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Chairman’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee member Humayun Kabir, Advisory Council member Dr Mahdi Amin, Press Secretary Saleh Sibli, and officials from the US Embassy in Dhaka were present.

Earlier, Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh met the BNP chairman at 11:30 am. According to the BNP media cell, discussions focused on enhancing Bangladesh-Canada relations and exploring avenues to deepen cooperation between the two countries.

BNP Joint Secretary General and Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee member Humayun Kabir and Advisory Council member Dr Mahdi Amin attended the meeting.

In the evening, a delegation of European Union countries, led by EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller, held talks with Tarique Rahman beginning at 5:40 pm.

The discussions centered on Bangladesh-EU relations, cooperation, and engagement with European partners.
Envoys from Germany, France, Sweden, Denmark, Spain and Italy joined the meeting. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Joint Secretary General Humayun Kabir, Advisory Council member Dr Mahdi Amin and Press Secretary Saleh Shibly were also present.

BNP officials said the meetings underscored ongoing dialogue with key international partners, with a shared emphasis on strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation.
