No lack of level playing field for polls: Salehuddin

Staff Reporter :

Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed on Monday said there is no absence of a level playing field in the country’s elections, assuring that the administration will act impartially.

He made the comments while talking to journalists following a public awareness programme on the referendum at the Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium.

Addressing the issue of Chhatra Dal’s sit-in programme around the Election Commission (EC) headquarters in Dhaka, the adviser said the matter would be reviewed by the EC.

“Election campaigning will formally start on January 22. Any meetings or rallies held after that will come under the Election Commission’s authority,” he said.

Calling the task of steering Bangladesh forward the country’s greatest challenge, Salehuddin emphasised the need to guarantee equal rights for every voter. “Voters will play the role of auditors.

Just as auditors scrutinise accounts and demand transparency, people will closely examine financial dealings and activities. Through this scrutiny, they will decide the credibility and acceptance of the election,” he added.
