‘N’ganj-4 clear example of pol criminalization’
Staff Correspondent :
Seeking prayers, goodwill, opinions and cooperation from all, Advocate Abdullah Al Amin, the 10-party alliance backed National Citizen Party (NCP) nominee for the Narayanganj-4 (Fatullah) constituency, expressed his determination to transform the area from a negatively branded zone into a city of education, healthy culture and safe living.
He said that despite being located between Dhaka City Corporation and Narayanganj City Corporation, the Narayanganj-4 parliamentary constituency stands as a stark example of political criminalization, inadequate civic services and the absence of basic urban facilities.
In the post mass uprising period, Al Amin noted, people will no longer judge politics by who is a heavyweight or by someone’s past identity.
Instead, they will assess who is actually working for the people, who stands beside them and who truly serves their hopes and aspirations.
He made these remarks on Monday at a meeting with journalists held at a restaurant in the Narayanganj Press Club building.
Advocate Abdullah Al Amin further said that voters are highly enthusiastic about casting their ballots, as there had been no proper voting environment for the past 16-17 years.
With a voting atmosphere now in place, people are eager to participate. At the same time, however, voters remain apprehensive.
He pointed out that Narayanganj-4 has long been plagued by violence. Voters are seeing former criminals, drug traffickers and juvenile gangs regrouping. Even identified criminals are appearing alongside various candidates.
This has created fears among voters about whether they will be able to vote in a free and fair environment.
Al-Amin said the key issue in Narayanganj-4 is who will truly work for the people and bring qualitative change to politics. He claimed that the National Citizen Party has stood with the people from the very beginning and will continue to do so in the future.
Responding to a question from journalists regarding the use of black money and muscle power, Al-Amin referred to BNP-allied and other candidates in the Narayanganj-4 constituency, saying that merely speaking out against terrorism and illicit money is not enough there must be proof through action.
In reality, he said, extortionists, godfathers and criminals are actively operating around some candidates, a situation the public no longer wants to see.
The discussion meeting was attended by Maulana Abdul Jabbar, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Narayanganj Metropolitan, along with other alliance leaders.
Also present were Khilafat Majlis Metropolitan General Secretary Al-Amin Rakib, Joint General Secretary Sheikh Sabbir Ahmed, and leaders and activists of the NCP.
