Staff Correspondent:

With the slogan “A Prosperous Bangladesh through Planned and Smart Agriculture,” a colorful reunion of the alumni of the 1980-81 batch of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) was held under the initiative of the former students.

The reunion took place last Saturday (January 17) at the prestigious Rivers Ridge Resort in Birulia, Savar, near Dhaka. About 250 agricultural scientists and distinguished personalities from various sectors of the country participated in the event.

On a soft winter morning filled with gentle sunshine and mist, longtime classmates reunited on the wings of nostalgia. From early morning, the venue became lively with vibrant conversations, laughter, and emotions.

The presence of alumni from almost all faculties of the university, including Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Fisheries, Livestock, and Animal Husbandry, turned the reunion into a truly inclusive celebration.

The program began with prayers and a special doa seeking eternal peace for departed classmates. This was followed by registration and breakfast, where participants enjoyed a special live pitha (traditional rice cake) arrangement. A variety of winter delicacies, including chitai pitha, made the morning even more delightful.

After breakfast, everyone took part in a boat cruise. Amid the flowing river, memories were shared and heartfelt stories exchanged. Following the boat trip, participants visited the green and scenic campus of Daffodil International University. After the campus tour, lunch was served at the designated venue.

Throughout the day, various games were arranged for children, along with joyful sports competitions for elderly men and women.

In the afternoon, a remembrance session and cultural program were held, featuring musical performances by renowned radio and television artists. Prizes were also distributed among the winners of different competitions.

The Chairman of Daffodil International University, Abdus Sabur Khan, attended the event as the chief guest. The discussion session was presided over by the batch president and former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Khandakar Nasir Uddin, along with other distinguished personalities. The overall coordination of the reunion was led by Chief Coordinator Dr. Mir Shah Alam.

The reunion was attended by former officials from the administration, police, and various cadres, as well as directors general and officials from the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, agricultural research organizations, BADC, the Department of Fisheries, the Department of Livestock Services, and the Department of Agricultural Engineering, along with teachers of Bangladesh Agricultural University.

From preparation to completion, significant responsibilities were carried out by Additional IGP Mosharraf Hossain, DIG Rafiqul Islam, former Secretary Afzal Hossain, Director of the Department of Agriculture Dr. Abdul Mannan, and many others. Through their collective efforts, the BAU 1980-81 batch reunion became a successful event filled with memories, camaraderie, and nostalgia.

This day-long reunion was not only an opportunity for old friends to meet again, but also rekindled a renewed commitment among participants to build the nation through planned and smart agriculture.
