Even Without Alliance: Jamaat won’t nominate in Faizul Karim’s seat
Staff Reporter:
Even though there is no electoral alliance, Jamaat-e-Islami has announced that it will not nominate a party candidate in the constituency where Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer, Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, will contest the election. Mufti Faizul Karim will run from the Barishal-5 (Sadar–City) constituency.
Jamaat-e-Islami made this announcement out of respect for him. Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, made the statement while speaking to journalists on Sunday night after meeting the Chief Adviser.
Dr. Taher said, “Even if we are not in an alliance, out of respect for Islami Andolan’s Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, we will not nominate a party candidate in the constituency from which he will contest the election. The candidate from our party who has already submitted nomination papers in that constituency will withdraw them.”
It is worth noting that Jamaat-e-Islami’s nominee in that constituency is the party’s Central Assistant Secretary General, Advocate Muazzam Hossain Helal, who has already submitted his nomination papers.
