Fire erupts at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital

A fire broke out on the 6th floor of the new building of Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) Hospital, causing panic among patients and their attendants. The fire was brought under control after nearly an hour of effort by eight units of the Fire Service.
The incident occurred on Saturday at around 4:30 pm on the 6th floor of the hospital’s new building.
Upon receiving the information, four units from the Mymensingh Sadar Fire Service Station began firefighting operations at 4:50 pm. Later, two additional units from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Fire Service and two units from Trishal Fire Station joined the operation. After nearly an hour of combined efforts, the fire was fully brought under control at around 5:45 pm. Fire Service officials confirmed that the hospital situation is now normal.
Eyewitnesses said that news of the fire created panic among patients and their relatives, leading to brief chaos inside the hospital. However, the situation returned to normal shortly afterward. Meanwhile, a large number of curious onlookers gathered outside the hospital premises.
Assistant Director of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Dr. Mohammad Main Uddin Khan, said that smoke initially came out from a small storeroom on the 6th floor and the fire spread quickly. As panic spread among patients and attendants, those admitted on the 6th floor were immediately shifted to the Medicine Ward. He added that there was no major damage and the overall hospital situation is now normal following the control of the fire.
