Kushtia voters gear up to reclaim franchise after 16 year

The 13th parliamentary election is knocking at the door of the country. The Election commission has already announced its schedules to hold the election on 12 February in the next month.
The people of the district are getting ready to excise their franchise as they failed to do it in the last 16 years.
Both the candidates and the people of the district expect that the election will be held in a free, fair and impartial manner. The voters will cast their votes at a peaceful atmosphere.
The political parties of the country have nominated their candidates to contest in the election.
In absence of Awami league Jamaat wants to take the position of Awami league. While the country’s single largest political party BNP try to maintain its stronghold constituencies in Kushtia.
There are four constituencies of the six upazilas in the district.
According to reliable sources the total population of the district is 21, 49,692. The total number of the voters is 17, 31,331.
The number of the male votes of Kushtia-1 constituency (Daulatpur upazilla) is 2, 03,492, While the number of the female voters are 201011. The total voters were 2, 73,252 in 2008. The new votes of this time 21,365. The number of young voters is 1, 31,253. Third gender voter is 01.
The percentage of young votes is 32.45 of the total voters. There are 135 polling centres of the constituency, Kushtia-1.The upazilla has got 14 unions.
BNP backed candidate Reza Ahmed alias Baccu Mollah the son of former state minister late Ahasanul Haque Mollah alias Paccha Mollah will contest in this constituency while Jamaat has nominated Belal Uddin, the Amir of Jamat-e Islami of Daulatpur upazila unit. After the demise of Pacha Mollah, Baccu Mollah was the elected as the Member of Parliament in a by-election in 2005
Kushtia-2 constituency, (Mirpur and Bheramara Upazilas), the total number of the voters is 4, 72,427. Of them 2, 36,715 are male voters while 2, 37,715 are females. The number of the Third gender voter is 03.
The total number of the voters were 3, 16,897 in 2008. The number of the new voters are 21, 334. The number of the young voters is 1, 55,530. The percentage of the young voters of the total voters is 32.92.
The number of total polling centres of the constituency is 170. There are two pourashavas and 19 unions of this constituency.
BNP has selected Barrister Ragib Rouf Chowdhury as their candidate in the upcoming election.
