BNP calls 2-day prog on Zia’s birth anniv

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a detailed two-day programme to observe the 90th birth anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman with due respect and dignity.
The programmes were announced on Saturday afternoon at a press conference held at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
According to the announced schedule, the party will organise various events in the capital and across the country on January 19 and 20. The key programmes are as follows:
January 19 (Monday): At 11:00am, floral wreaths will be placed and fateha will be offered at the grave of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Rizvi said that party Chairperson Tarique Rahman will be present during the visit to the grave. In addition, discussion meetings and special prayer programmes will be held at party offices across the country on the same day.
January 20 (Tuesday): At 11:00am, a discussion meeting will be held at the auditorium of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in Kakrail, Dhaka. Senior party leaders, along with prominent intellectuals and representatives of civil society, will address the programme.
Speaking at the press conference, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was the architect of modern Bangladesh and the initiator of multi-party democracy.
“To mark his birth anniversary, we have taken this two-day programme. On the 19th, during the tribute at the grave, our leader Tarique Rahman will be present to inspire party leaders and activists,” he said.
He further added that to observe the day, BNP’s affiliated and associate organisations at district and metropolitan levels outside the capital will organise discussion meetings and prayer gatherings according to their convenience.
