My mother and I had decided to suicide: Oindrila

Popular Indian Bengali film actress Oindrila Sen recently spoke candidly about the most difficult phase of her life in a podcast.

Oindrila’s father, Shantanu Sen, died in a road accident in 2015. At that time, Oindrila was only 20 years old.

Growing up in a middle-class family in the Behala Shilpara area, Oindrila described her father as the backbone of the household.

“We didn’t even know how to withdraw money from an ATM or how to pay electricity bills. We depended on my father for everything,” she said.

Amid extreme uncertainty and helplessness, both Oindrila and her mother eventually broke down emotionally.

In the podcast, she shared that during that period, their future seemed completely unclear-they did not know how the household would run or where to find what they needed. Overwhelmed by this despair, both of them fell into a severe mental crisis.

Due to the economic and social insecurity at the time, Oindrila and her mother had even decided to take their own lives.
