Fox meat sale in Chatmohar, butcher on the run

A butcher in Haripur Bazar of Chatmohar Upazila of Pabna has been accused of selling fox meat.
This has created a huge sensation in the area. The police along with the Upazila Livestock Officer have visited the scene. The accused butcher is on the run. The incident took place on Wednesday.
According to local sources, Ashraful Kasai, son of Ashu Kasai, a meat seller from Abdalpara in Haripur Union of the upazila, hunted a fox on Wednesday morning.
Later, when he slaughtered the fox and went to sell the meat at Haripur Bazar, the matter came to light. Ashraful also sold 2 kg of meat to someone at a price of 700 taka per kg as beef. Ashraful, realizing that the situation was dangerous, quickly fled with the fox meat. Later, Dhulauri Akkas left the fox meat near Haripur Bazar and fled.
After this incident, the locals informed the Chatmohar police, who then informed the Upazila Livestock Department.
Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Swapan Kumar Sarkar and the police station’s SI Kamruzzaman took the locals to Upazila Nirbahi Officer Musa Naser Chowdhury. But since the accused was absconding, they did not take immediate action against him and ordered a regular case to be filed at the UNO police station.
Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Swapan Kumar Sarkar said. “After receiving the complaint, the UNO was informed. I visited the scene and found the truth of selling fox meat. The police will file a regular case in this regard and take action.”
Police Station SI Kamruzzaman said, “After we were informed about the matter, we went to the spot. The livestock officer and UNO sir were informed. The case is under process.
Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Sarwar Hossain said, the police inspected the spot and found the truth of selling fox meat. We will take legal action if we receive a complaint.
Meanwhile, the locals alleged that the accused party is trying to manage people at various levels, including the local BNP leader, to cover up the incident.
When contacted to talk to the accused Ashraful butcher, he could not be found. He is said to be absconding. However, the locals said that Ashraful is in the area.
The locals also said that Ashraful was caught selling dead beef and pork in various hotels in Pabna and Baraigram before. He was caught red-handed by the locals while selling dead goat meat in the area. He was fined repeatedly and apologized.
This time too, the same The incident has happened. According to multiple sources, a syndicate selling sick and dead beef is now active in various places in Chatmohar and neighboring Baraigram upazila. Animals are being slaughtered everywhere without health checks.
They are being sold indiscriminately. Butchers are committing all these crimes without the knowledge of the buyers. There is a demand to take action against them.
