Jagpa’s Rashed Pradhan won’t contest in polls

Staff Reporter :

Despite being a partner in the 11-party electoral alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami, Rashed Pradhan, Co-Vice President and Spokesperson of the Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa), will not contest the upcoming parliamentary election. He made this announcement in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday afternoon.

In the post, he said, “Today, Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 8:00 PM, a press briefing will be held, Insha’Allah, regarding our alliance’s seat-sharing arrangement and other related matters.

Whatever the situation may be, we are all companions on the streets and brotherly organizations. Therefore, I humbly request the leaders and supporters of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon, and other parties to please refrain from any unwanted behavior or language toward one another.

In the greater interest of unity, I will not participate in this election. Instead, I will take part in campaigning in favor of ‘Yes’ in the referendum and on behalf of the alliance’s candidates, Insha’Allah.”

He further said, “Those who love me, please do not be saddened. Our mutual understanding and unity are far more important than Rashed Pradhan as an individual. And those who hate me-you may begin hurling abuses in your usual ‘sweet’ language.”

“May the Almighty Allah, the Lord of all worlds, accept this effort of unity for the sake of the country. Ameen. JazakAllahu Khairan.
