Staff Reporter :

In a historic milestone, a record 3,000 new recruits of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)’s 104th batch took a solemn oath on Wednesday to protect the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity at the conclusion of their training parade.

The ceremony unfolded Wednesday at the ‘Bir Uttam Mojibur Rahman Parade Ground’ of the Border Guard Training Centre and College (BGTCC) in Satkania, Chattogram.

Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd), Adviser to the Ministries of Home Affairs and Agriculture, attended as chief guest.

He inspected the parade, received salutes, and addressed the recruits. Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Gani, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuluzzaman Siddiqui, and BGTCC Commandant were also present.

The event kicked off with an armed salute to the chief guest, followed by the oath-taking and parade display. In his speech, the Adviser praised the recruits’ spirited performance and lauded BGB’s 230-year legacy as a disciplined, professional force.

“As the vigilant sentinels of our 4,427 km border, BGB excels in securing frontiers, curbing smuggling, drug and human trafficking, maintaining internal law and order, and aiding disaster relief,” he said.

Addressing the newcomers, he emphasized: “Discipline is the hallmark of a soldier’s life. Integrity, intelligence, reliability, loyalty, zeal, and enthusiasm define a force’s professionalism.” He urged them to uphold BGB’s core principles-morale, brotherhood, discipline, and skill-while staying vigilant in their duties.

The Adviser felicitated top performers: Recruit Al Imran (chest no. 155) for overall excellence; Shipikul Islam (chest no. 2769) and Recruit Lubna Khatun (chest no. 1515) for physical fitness; and Recruit Shafiqur Rahman Tamim (chest no. 1347) and Recruit Nahida Aktar (chest no. 1531) for marksmanship.

He highlighted BGTCC’s role in training recruits over 44 years, completing 72 batches since independence despite a capacity of 700-1,000.

This batch trained 3,023 (2,950 men, 73 women) under the interim government’s directives, setting a new record. The Adviser thanked BGB leadership for the flawless event.

The parade ended with an armed salute, thrilling trick drills, and a band display by BGB musicians. Senior BGB officers, military and civil officials from Dhaka, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar, local dignitaries, and media representatives attended.
