Rishad powers Hobart to go top in BBL

Bangladeshi star Rishad Hossain showed his spin magic in his first Big Bash League (BBL) match. Once again, Hobart Hurricanes won their fifth consecutive victory with his brilliant spell. The leg spinner took 3 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs. Thanks to which Hobart defeated Adelaide Strikers by 37 runs. Rishad’s team is at the top of the Big Bash League with 12 points.

Hobart Hurricanes batted first after losing the toss at their home ground Bellerive Oval on Friday. They scored 178 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Rishad did not come out to bat yesterday. However, his teammate Mitchell Owen played a cameo innings of 33 runs off 9 balls. He decorated his innings with 2 fours and 4 sixes.

No one could settle down at the crease for long for Hobart. However, they got a challenging capital with several cameo innings. Rehan Ahmed scored 29 off 17 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes, Matthew Wade scored 27 off 19 balls with 2 fours and 1 six and Nikhil Chowdhury scored 23 runs. On the other hand, Luke Wood and Jamie Overton took 2 wickets each for Adelaide.

Chasing a target of 179 runs, Adelaide suffered a major setback at the start. They lost 4 wickets for 8 runs. Of these, Hobart Captain Nathan Ellis and Riley Meredith took 2 wickets each. Next came Magic Rishad. He took 3 wickets to further break Adelaide’s backbone. However, Liam Scott was steadfast at one end. He left the crease unbeaten in the end. Scott, who scored 91 runs off 58 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes, could have been the hero of Adelaide if the team had won. However, no one else could keep him company.

Apart from Scott, only Luke Wood was able to reach double figures (11) for Adelaide. Apart from this, no one else in the team could reach double figures. As a result, apart from Scott’s 91 runs, the rest of the team scored 50 runs. Rishad took the highest 3 wickets for Hobart, while Meredith and Ellis took 2 wickets each.
Defending champions Hobart were already at the top of the Big Bash points table. They consolidated their position with a 37-run win on Friday. Perth Scorchers, Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers are next with 8 points each.
