JnUCSU polls Shibir backed panel wins top posts

Islami Chhatra Shibir backed candidates confirmed an intense victory in the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) elections. Contesting under the banner of the ‘Odomyo Jobian Oikyo’ panel, they have ensured Vice president (VP) , General Secretary (GS), Assistant General Secretary ( AGS) and most of the crucial posts.
JnUCSU Chief Election Commissioner, Professor Dr. Mustofa Kamal on Thursday (January 8), officially announced the result through a notification.
Earlier, the administration conducted a day-long vote on Tuesday and counted the votes all day and all night on Wednesday. In the top post results, supported by the Shibir for the post of Vice-President (VP), Md. Riazul Islam was elected by getting 5564 votes.
AKM Rakib, supported by Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, got 4688 votes. Shibir-backed Abdul Alim Arif won the post of General Secretary (GS) by getting 5470 votes, while his main rival Chhatra Dal-backed candidate Khadijatul Kubra got 2203 votes. Shibir supported candidate Masud Rana was elected for the post of Assistant General Secretary (AGS) by getting 5020 votes, the nearest rival Chhatra Dal supported candidate BM Atiqur Rahman Tanzil got 4022 votes.
Besides, Jagannath University (JnU) only hall Union fixed for female students , Shibir backed panel confirmed VP, GS, AGS and most of the secretary posts.
According to Election Commissioner Zulfikar Mahmud, a total of 16,645 voters were registered for the JnUCSU election. Voters turnout stood at approximately 65 percent, indicating a significant level of student participation in the long-awaited campus polls.
While Shibir-backed candidates won nine Secretary positions, Chhatra Dal-backed candidates won three positions: Literature and Culture, Transportation, Library, and Seminar.
In this regard, newly elected VP Riazul Islam said, “The university students are very mature and talented. The students voted for whomever they considered worthy according to their own judgment and some also chose Chatra Dal, while others voted for our panel.
I view the decisions of both those who voted for me and those who did not with equal respect and I fully respect the students’ verdict. Just as we worked shoulder to shoulder with our brothers from other panels before the elections, we want to work together in the same way after the elections.”
In a Facebook post, the Chhatra Dal VP candidate AKM Rakib, said, “a free, fair and transparent election has been held. Even though I lost as a candidate, but a student of Jagannath University (JnU), I can proudly say—like other universities, student union elections have been held in Jagannath, this is my pride. Since I was admitted to the university, my goal has been to work for the interests of students.
The elected representatives will continue to work for the development of Jagannath University (JnU) and the welfare of general students—this is my expectation. Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all the candidates who won the JnUCSU elections.”
Besides, with the help of three layer security, the election held in a peaceful atmosphere, although in the candidates brought some allegations against one another. The students of JnU are considering that this result will also impact in the national politics of the country.
Previously, due the passed of BNP chairperson, Madam Khaleda Zia , the elections had been postponed and in the date of January 6, 2026 the polls held. The teachers and students have seen a festive environment covered by the election excitement.
